A good mudroom gives each person their own space. We build lockers or cubbies with hooks for coats and bags, a bench to sit on while taking off boots, shoe storage underneath and cabinets above for hats, gloves and seasonal gear. In New England, that means room for winter coats and wet boots, not just a few hooks.
Cabinets above and beside the washer and dryer keep detergent and supplies out of sight and within reach. We can add a counter for folding, a spot for hanging clothes to dry, and tall cabinets for brooms, the vacuum and cleaning supplies.
